On July 7th, local time, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that starting from August 1, 2025, the United States will impose a 25% tariff on all goods exported to Kazakhstan and Malaysia, a 30% tariff on all South African goods, and a 40% tariff on all goods exported to Laos and Myanmar.
Trump stated that this tariff would be independent of various sectoral tariffs. Moreover, any attempt to circumvent this tariff through third-party transit would also be subject to higher tariffs. He mentioned that companies choosing to build factories or produce products within the United States are exempt from this tariff. Additionally, if these countries decide to increase their tariffs on the U.S., the U.S. will apply an equivalent amount of tariffs based on the existing rates. (Liu Xiaoqian)
