According to a report by CNN on July 8th, local time, two US government officials familiar with the search and rescue operations revealed that officials had known for days that the number of missing persons due to the flood was significantly higher than the figures reported by local authorities.
One of the officials mentioned that authorities have been struggling to confirm the number of RVs camping in the area, as these RVs are not registered.
Texas Governor Abbott stated that on July 8th, local time, the number of missing persons in Ker County had surged to over 170.
