On the 9th, local time, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban stated in an interview broadcasted by local media that currently,
European problems are all rooted in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
As American policies shift, the transatlantic relationship has fractured,
and this war has failed for the European Union. European leaders must acknowledge their misguided strategic choices.
Hungarian Prime Minister Orban:
The entirety of Europe’s problems stem from the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The economic stagnation, inflation, and high food and energy prices we see today in Europe are all a result of the war. The transatlantic relationship, where the United States and Europe have diverged on strategic choices,
where the United States wants to end the war, while Europe wants to continue it, has led to a split between the two sides. This means that we will have to face all negative consequences brought about by the war alone, including finances, economy, and public safety.
Orban mentioned that Europe has spent approximately one hundred billion euros on Ukraine, and now they want to spend even more. However, the EU has yet to outline a rational path towards victory, considering it through military and political logic.
It is now time for diplomats to regroup and work towards peace.
When discussing Hungary’s opposition to Ukraine joining the EU, Orban expressed that accepting a state in a state of war is essentially accepting the war itself. Therefore,
it is imperative to prevent Ukraine from joining the EU.
