Joly expressed her firm stance, stating, “We will firmly oppose this and will not compromise,” though she did not disclose specific details of the countermeasures.
Previously, on the evening of July 9th, Trump posted on social media platforms stating that he would impose a 50% tariff on copper imported into the United States, with the tariff set to take effect officially on August 1st.
According to data from the Department of Natural Resources of Canada, in 2023, Canada exported $9.3 billion worth of copper and its base products, with about half of this amount going to the United States. (Reported by Zhang Sen)
