On July 10th, local time, Nigerian Foreign Minister Yousefou Tugal stated in an interview that the United States is pressuring African countries to accept illegal immigrants expelled by the US. The recent visa restrictions imposed on Nigerian travelers by the US are not “equal”, but rather a form of pressure tactic.
Tugal expressed his refusal to comply with the pressure from the Trump administration and accept Venezuelan expatriates expelled by the US. He pointed out that Nigeria has nearly 230 million people, already facing numerous challenges. “It would be unfair for Nigeria to accept 300 Venezuelan expatriates who have been expelled.”
On July 9th, Trump invited the presidents of Liberia, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Mauritania, and Gabon to make an official visit to the US. During the meeting, he requested these countries to accept illegal immigrants from the US, including those who have served their sentences, as well as those who refuse or delay returning to their home countries.
