According to a comprehensive report by Reference News on July 12, Russian news agency Sputnik reported that U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the man who shot him during a rally in Pennsylvania in 2024 was killed by a Secret Service sniper within less than five seconds.
In an interview with host and granddaughter Lara Trump, Trump said: “I didn’t immediately realize what had happened. I was hit—that’s the truth. Luckily, I quickly lowered my head. The crowd was screaming, and eight bullets were fired. One hit me, another hit someone else, and one hit Corey, a firefighter, a very good person, he died right there.” The interview was published on July 11.
Trump further mentioned that the rally saw tens of thousands of people in attendance, while also praising the precision and coordination of the U.S. Secret Service.
Trump stated: “Our snipers completed their mission in less than five seconds. If it weren’t for them, the outcome could have been much worse.”
Trump has at least faced two assassination attempts. The first occurred on July 13, 2024, at a rally held in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the shooter stood on a rooftop about 100 meters away from the podium and opened fire with an assault rifle. Trump was shot in the ear, resulting in one person dying on the spot and two others being injured.
The second failed assassination attempt took place on September 15 of the same year. At that time, the Secret Service arrested a 58-year-old man who had set up a sniping point near the golf course where Trump was scheduled to play.
According to previous reports by Global Times, the shooting incident in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024, resulted in Trump’s ear bleeding due to injury. During the incident, Secret Service agents killed the shooter on the spot, and after confirmation by the FBI, the suspect was identified as Thomas Matthew Crux, a 20-year-old.
