[Report] According to Agence France-Presse, a federal judge in the United States ruled on the 11th local time, ordering the Trump administration to cease its “immigration crackdown” across seven counties in Los Angeles and its surrounding areas. The White House responded later that day, stating that federal judges have no authority over immigration policy.
“Any federal judge has no authority over immigration policy, which belongs to Congress and the President,” White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson said. “Law enforcement actions require meticulous planning and execution, far beyond any judge’s jurisdiction or authority. We hope this serious judicial overreach will be corrected in an appeal.”
The report mentioned that Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Public Affairs, also expressed in an email that the claim that “law enforcement targets individuals based on their skin color” is repugnant and completely wrong.
Agence France-Presse noted that since the Trump administration intensified arrest operations at parking lots, immigration courts, and a series of businesses, the immigrant and Latino communities in Southern California have been under tension for weeks.
Previously, an immigrant rights organization sued the Trump administration last week for intentionally targeting brown-skinned people in Southern California in its ongoing arrest operations. The plaintiffs included three detainees and two American citizens, one of whom had presented identification to law enforcement but was still arrested.
On June 6, federal agencies including the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deployed a large number of law enforcement officers to carry out enforcement actions against illegal immigrants in various locations throughout Los Angeles County, California, leading to numerous street confrontations, chaos, and conflicts.
