South Korea’s former President Yoon Suk-yeol was detained in Seoul on July 10th, and sources close to him revealed, “Yoon Suk-yeol has been taking medication for an old illness. After his arrest, only certain diabetes medications are currently allowed to be brought into the detention center, and he is currently only taking half of the medication he normally takes.”
The report states that obtaining external medication for detainees is complex, requiring first a medical examination by the detention center’s internal physician, followed by a recommendation for external treatment, and finally approval from the detention center director. Theoretically, family members can obtain prescriptions from their treating doctors and submit them to the detention center. However, due to several charges against Yoon Suk-yeol’s wife, Kim Ji-hee, she is also under investigation by a special prosecutorial team, making it difficult for her to legally obtain prescriptions for her husband through normal channels.
On the day Yoon Suk-yeol was arrested (July 11th), the South Korean Special Prosecutor’s Office suddenly searched his residence in Seoul’s Gangnam district. Reportedly, when investigators arrived at 9 a.m., only Kim Ji-hee was home alone. It was only after the news of the search broke out that Yoon Suk-yeol’s lawyer rushed to the scene.
Kim Ji-hee’s health condition has also recently come to light. A close relative of Yoon’s, attorney Choi Zheng-hyo, revealed in an interview on July 10th that Kim Ji-hee not only suffers from depression but also has low blood pressure and has lost a lot of weight. Due to dizziness caused by low blood pressure, Kim Ji-hee had to use a wheelchair while hospitalized.

Faced with the pressure of the Special Prosecutor’s Office applying for a detention warrant, this former First Lady of South Korea is also preparing to face it. It is reported that she is forming a legal team consisting of four to five lawyers to defend herself.
Reports indicate that Yoon Suk-yeol previously refused the Special Prosecutor’s Office’s initial interrogation. The Special Prosecutor’s Office stated that they have once again notified him to accept the investigation on the afternoon of July 14th. The public believes that if Yoon Suk-yeol refuses the investigation again, the Special Prosecutor’s Office might forcefully summon him.
Yoon Suk-yeol’s legal team stated, “The detention center is hot and stuffy, and Yoon Presidency has eaten very little due to diabetes, which significantly diminishes his willingness to actively respond to interrogations before his arrest.”
It is known that Yoon Suk-yeol’s side is considering whether to apply to the court for a review of “the necessity of arrest”. He is also considering applying for permission from the detention center to visit a hospital outside for treatment and obtain prescription drugs.
