On July 13th, it was learned that in response to Prime Minister Netanyahu’s request, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) will present their plan for constructing a “humanitarian city” in Gaza at a limited scope cabinet meeting that evening.
It is reported that the IDF will clearly state its intention to act according to government directives during the meeting, but it is also expected to issue cautious reminders. IDF officials will point out that it is estimated that from the commencement of construction to the actual operation of the “humanitarian city,” this process will take 3 to 5 months. Furthermore, the Israeli defense and security agencies are concerned that insisting on pushing forward with the plan may hinder the current ceasefire and exchange of detainees negotiations currently underway in Doha.
It is understood that the content of the meeting that evening also includes an updated withdrawal route map for the IDF, which is intended to be submitted to the Doha mediators. However, local media reports indicate that senior Israeli political figures remain concerned that even with the new version, it might still be difficult to break through the current negotiation deadlock.
