Report by Global Times – Xing Xiaojing. On the 15th, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian presided over a regular press conference. Global Times asked: It was reported that US Secretary of State Rubiao posted on social media on the 11th, announcing visa restrictions and other sanctions against Cuban President Diaz-Canel, Minister of Revolutionary Armed Forces Lopez, and Minister of the Interior Alvarez, citing violations of human rights. This is reported to be the first time that the US has imposed sanctions on Diaz-Canel. What is China’s comment on this?

“We have noticed the relevant reports,” Lin Jian said. “China firmly opposes the US side’s unilateral sanctions under the guise of the so-called ‘human rights’ to interfere in Cuba’s internal affairs. The US has implemented a comprehensive blockade and illegal sanctions on Cuba for more than 60 years, causing a great disaster to the Cuban people. Sanctions should be immediately cancelled, not intensified. China firmly supports Cuba in pursuing a development path that suits its national conditions, and firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its sovereignty and dignity.”

Lin Jian also stated that we urge the US side to immediately cancel the blockade and sanctions against Cuba, and remove Cuba from the list of “anti-terrorism” countries. I also want to emphasize that if the US really cares about human rights, it should reflect on its human rights violations in Guantanamo and other parts of the world over the years.
