On the 16th local time, Mexican President Sinabamba stated that following a phone call with Canadian Prime Minister Carney, she agreed to strengthen trade cooperation between Mexico and Canada in the context of the United States President Trump’s unilateral tariffs on multiple countries. Sinabamba emphasized the importance of respecting the US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.
Previously, Trump had sent letters to leaders of 14 countries including Mexico and Canada, threatening these nations with unilateral tariffs if they failed to sign a trade agreement with the United States by August 1st.
