According to a poll conducted by the Associated Press on July 17th, only about one-quarter of American adults reported that Trump’s policies have been helpful to them since his presidency. The poll highlighted Trump’s unsatisfactory performance in key issues such as the economy, immigration, government spending, and healthcare.
Since earlier this year, Trump’s approval ratings for immigration have slightly declined, a topic that has been a major focus of his second term. The survey found that about half of American adults said that since Trump’s second term began, his policies “have caused more harm”; about one-fifth said his policies “have not brought any change to their lives,” and about a quarter said his policies “have helped them more.” The vast majority of Democrats and about half of independents expressed that Trump’s policies had negative impacts, and even many Republicans stated they did not see any positive effects.
“In my current situation, I don’t know how much his policies have affected my daily life,” said Landen Lindemer, a 29-year-old logistics manager from the suburbs of Atlanta, who voted for Trump three times. Despite his concerns over the massive expenditures of the “big and beautiful” bill signed by the president on July 4th, Lindemer overall acknowledged Trump’s work performance. “But I don’t believe it will really help,” he said.
The poll found that about forty percent of American adults recognize Trump’s work performance, which is consistent with his June support rate but stands at a historical low compared to previous administrations. In the poll, Trump received less than 50% support across all issues, including the economy, government spending, trade, taxation, immigration, healthcare, and his handling of the Middle East conflict. 26-year-old Timothy Dwair said that Trump’s economic efforts, especially his tariff policies, are “really bad.” Dwair, who identified himself as an independent but leans towards supporting the Republican Party and works in retail.
