On July 18th, local time, the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey announced that Israel and Syria have agreed to a ceasefire.
Regarding this news, neither Israel nor Syria has yet provided a response.
On the 13th of this month, intense clashes erupted between the Druze armed factions in Suwayda Province and Bedouin tribes in Syria. Following these conflicts, the Syrian government’s internal and defense ministries intervened and engaged in firefights with some of the Druze armed groups. Israel intervened in the conflict on the grounds of protecting the Druze people and refusing to allow Syrian government forces to enter southern Syria. The Israeli military bombarded Syrian government forces and also conducted airstrikes on areas near the “Presidential Palace” in Damascus and the “General Staff Building.” On the 16th, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced a new ceasefire agreement in Suwayda Province, in the south of Syria.
On the 17th, local time, another conflict occurred between local tribes and Druze armed groups in rural areas of western Suwayda Province, southern Syria. From the evening of the 17th to the early hours of the 18th, Israeli forces launched another airstrike on Suwayda Province. (Xu Tao)
