At 20:00 local time on the 20th, Beijing time at 19:00, the voting for the Japanese Dietary Council elections concluded, and counting has begun.
According to a recent report by Japan’s Asahi Shimbun, the ruling coalition consisting of the Liberal Democratic Party and the Komeito Party will have fewer than 50 seats, along with 75 non-elected seats, failing to maintain a majority in the Diet. Previously released exit polls from various Japanese media outlets also indicated that the ruling coalition might not meet its target of 50 seats.
As previously announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, all counting is expected to be completed before 7:00 local time on the 21st.
Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga stated that he would continue to govern.
