On July 21st, during a response to media reports about South Korea considering allowing individuals to travel to North Korea, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Unification, Ji Bum-sang, stated that:
The South Korean government is currently researching and advancing policies aimed at improving relations with North Korea, with the goal of alleviating tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
He also mentioned that he understands that individual tourism does not violate international sanctions. On July 3rd, just one month into his tenure as President, Lee Jae-myung had expressed the desire to start a path towards peace and coexistence on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and cooperation.
