The police in Pakan Town, Khammum Region of Myanmar’s northern state, reported on July 21 that a collapse occurred at an ore mining area in the town during the morning. It has been confirmed that one person has died and approximately 20 people are missing.
Pakan police stated that rescue operations have been initiated by relevant departments and a body has been found among the victims. Additionally, about 20 people are buried under the soil, forcing rescue workers to use heavy machinery. Due to ongoing rainfall, the difficulty of the rescue operation is significant, with efforts still ongoing.
A rescue worker mentioned that when the collapse occurred, some individuals were mining ore below while nearby houses also collapsed. It is expected that the death toll will rise further. (Xinhua News Agency)
