On the 21st, the National University of Korea announced that it has decided to nullify the doctoral degree and degree awarded to Kim Jong-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
The university stated that due to the revocation of Kim Jong-hee’s master’s degree by her alma mater, Shumyung Women’s University, which violated the conditions for obtaining a doctorate as stipulated by the Higher Education Law. According to Article 33, Paragraph 4 of the Higher Education Law, one of the requirements for applying for a doctorate is having obtained a master’s degree. Therefore, the university has decided to nullify the effectiveness of Kim Jong-hee’s admission to the Doctorate in Science and Technology Design program at the Graduate School of Technology Design and the awarding of her doctoral degree.
The university submitted this case to the Graduate School of Technology Design’s Admission Committee, which after review and voting decided to nullify Kim Jong-hee’s doctoral admission qualifications and the doctoral degree she was granted based on these qualifications.
Shumyung Women’s University revoked Kim Jong-hee’s master’s degree on June 24th, citing instances of plagiarism in her graduate studies at the university. (CCTV News, Zhang Yun)
