Affected by the outer circulation of Typhoon “Vepa” and the southwest monsoon, the northern region of Thailand has recently been continuously hit by heavy rainfall. Multiple provinces including Nan, Pao, Nanbon, and Chiang Rai have experienced floods and landslide disasters in succession, with some areas experiencing road closures and property damage.
According to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of the Ministry of Interior of Thailand, since July 16th, strong rainfall has occurred in various northern provinces. By July 23rd, dozens of counties and villages have been affected, with many roads submerged and traffic paralyzed. Several villages in Pao Province were trapped by flash floods, prompting the local government to urgently dispatch rubber boats to evacuate residents. The meteorological department has warned that mountainous areas still face the risks of flash floods and landslides, necessitating heightened vigilance.
The Ministry of Interior of Thailand urgently convened a video conference with the governors of 30 provinces to deploy disaster prevention and relief measures, and required all regions to issue disaster warning information around the clock. The disaster prevention and mitigation department has coordinated military and police forces, local governments, and volunteer rescue organizations to mobilize machinery and equipment for emergency response and disaster relief efforts. Currently, each province is assessing the losses from the disaster and is accelerating the restoration of infrastructure. (CCTV Reporter: Li Min)
