[Report by Li Ziyu] According to a report by the Korean News Agency, South Korea’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lee Jae-young issued a statement on the 25th, urging Thailand and Cambodia to resolve the escalating border conflict through dialogue and peace, in order to alleviate tension.
In his statement, Lee Jae-young expressed deep concern over the armed conflict occurring between Thailand and Cambodia, expressing profound condolences for the victims and sincere condolences for the families of the deceased.
Conflicts between Cambodia and Thailand occurred on the border areas on the 24th and 25th, with both sides accusing each other of violating international law. The United Nations Security Council will hold a closed meeting on the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia on the 25th Eastern Time.
According to reports from the British “The Guardian” and Agence France-Presse, Thailand stated on July 25 that, as of now, more than 138,000 people have been evacuated from the Thai side of the border area with Cambodia. Additionally, the scope of firefighting in the disputed area has expanded from the initial six locations reported to twelve. The “The Guardian” mentioned that this indicates that the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is further widening. Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phatthaman warned on the 25th that “if the current situation escalates, it may evolve into war, but it is still confined within the conflict.”
