According to the WeChat public account of the Chinese Embassy in South Korea, as the summer vacation approaches, to further enhance the awareness of holiday safety precautions among students studying in South Korea, the Chinese Embassy in South Korea has the following reminders:
1. When traveling during the holiday, it is imperative to pay attention to traffic, fire safety, electricity usage, and personal safety. If you plan to travel to a third country, please consult relevant information such as local climate conditions, natural environment, cultural customs, social security, legal regulations, entry requirements, etc., through platforms like China Study Abroad Network, China Consular Service Website, “Consular Express” new media platform, and websites of foreign embassies and consulates. Avoid traveling alone and refrain from visiting high-risk countries or regions. Stay away from protests and political gatherings, refrain from participating, loitering, or watching, and do not publicly post or forward inappropriate political statements.
2. During the holiday, work should comply with the laws of the host country. According to South Korean immigration regulations, foreign students working part-time should choose legitimate business venues, engage in industries that match their status, obtain a work permit according to regulations, and adhere to related time limit requirements. Working without a work permit is illegal and can lead to fines, expulsion, and impact on academic and future development. Refrain from participating in any illegal activities related to gambling, prostitution, or money transferring for others, as these actions can lead to severe consequences.
3. Exchange currency legally and according to regulations. According to South Korean’s Foreign Exchange Management Law, exchange currency through banks or legitimate exchange agencies rather than private channels to avoid losing money or becoming tools for financial fraud or illegal money laundering.
4. Be vigilant against telecommunications scams. Do not disclose personal and family information or bank details easily; be highly alert to calls claiming to be from consulates, police, banks, customs, or couriers asking for passports, parcel delivery, or involving illegal activities. Do not transfer money to unfamiliar accounts, and discuss matters with family and friends when necessary. If you encounter a scam, do not panic but promptly call the police, remain calm while reporting, organize evidence in advance, and provide detailed information to the police.
5. Photography must comply with local laws and regulations, and use drones cautiously for photography. South Korean law explicitly prohibits taking photos at military bases and facilities without permission, and avoid taking photos in sensitive areas such as no-fly zones and restricted photography zones.
