On the 25th local time, a survey released by the polling center of Emerson College in the United States revealed that
more than half of American citizens do not approve of the handling of related documents to the late American businessman Jeffrey Epstein’s case by the Trump administration and are unconvinced that President Trump will provide reliable information.
This survey was conducted from the 21st to the 22nd of February, collecting opinions from 1,400 American citizens about Trump’s performance since taking office in January this year and several of his policies. The poll results showed that 51% of respondents did not approve of the Trump administration’s handling of Epstein’s case-related documents; 42% believed Epstein died “murder”, and 20% thought he committed suicide.
Epstein had close interactions with numerous American politicians and business figures. After being arrested for suspected sexual crimes, he died in prison in August 2019, and was found “suicide”. During his campaign for president in 2024, Trump promised to release all relevant documents regarding Epstein’s case after taking office. However, when the first batch of documents were released at the end of February this year, there was no explosive new information.
The U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a memorandum on July 7th, declaring that there is no credible evidence to suggest that Epstein possessed a “customer list” used for extortion against prominent people, there is no evidence to prove that Epstein died from murder, and stated that they would not release more documents related to Epstein’s case.
This shift in the Trump administration has caused shock within the United States, sparking doubts and dissatisfaction among supporters of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) camp. Many people hope that the Department of Justice will disclose all relevant documents related to Epstein’s case.
According to the latest polls, about 53% of respondents said they “completely” or “somewhat” trust Trump; compared to this, 26% and 21% respectively expressed “very” and “quite” trust in Trump.
Moreover, regarding economic issues and tariff policies, dissatisfaction with the Trump administration reached 51% and 50% respectively. Among respondents, 37% reported that their personal financial situation has worsened since the beginning of the year; 39% believe that the “big and beautiful” tax and spending bill signed by Trump at the beginning of July will have a negative impact on their lives.
Trump currently has an overall approval rating of 46%, with disapproval at 47%.
Spencer Kimball, Executive Director of the Emerson College Polling Center, said that since Trump began his second term as president, his “support rate has stabilized around 45%”,
while disapproval rates “have steadily increased by about one percentage point each month.”
