On July 28th, local time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on his official social media platform that he had held talks with all personnel involved in the rescue and assistance of Ukrainian prisoners of war. The meeting discussed the ongoing efforts to facilitate the return of all captured individuals and the current status of prisoner exchanges.
Zelensky stated that since the full-scale outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in February 2022, Ukraine has successfully released 5,857 captured individuals through the prisoner exchange mechanism, along with another 555 individuals being released through non-exchange channels. Under the framework of the Istanbul Agreement, more than 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers have returned to their homeland.
