On July 28th, Kim Yong-chul, Deputy Secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, published a speech titled “Contact with the United States is only America’s Hope.”
In his speech, Kim Yong-chul stated that the US unilaterally evaluates past North-South dialogues, and North Korea does not wish to assign any significance to these.
Kim Yong-chul mentioned that North Korea’s irreversible nuclear status and its capabilities, as well as the geopolitical environment, have undergone fundamental changes. Acknowledging this fact should become the premise for predicting and contemplating everything in the future.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea remains open to any options for maintaining its current national status.
Kim Yong-chul expressed that if the United States refuses to accept the changing reality and clings to the failed past, the North-South meeting can only remain at the level of the US’s “hope.” (Reported by Dong Haitao)
