[Global Times – Report by Soo Yanqi] Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jia Kun presided over the routine meeting on July 30th. During the meeting, a question was raised: The recent humanitarian situation in Gaza has sparked widespread concern among the international community. French President Macron and British Prime Minister Starmer both expressed their intention to recognize the Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly. Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Israeli security cabinet is still considering a “comprehensive military occupation” of the Gaza Strip and is planning to “siege” certain cities with active Hamas activities. What are China’s comments on the current situation in Gaza?
Guo Jia Kun responded that China highly concerns about the current situation in Gaza and opposes Israel’s escalating military actions in Gaza. It deeply concerns China about the humanitarian disasters faced by the people of Gaza. This round of conflict has lasted for 21 months, and the humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated to an unprecedented extent. A recent announcement from the World Health Organization shows that since this year, Gaza has reported a total of 74 cases of malnutrition-related deaths, including 63 cases this month, 25 of which were children. This is the latest example of the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. We call on all relevant parties, especially Israel, to immediately stop its military operations in Gaza, lift the blockade and siege, fully restore access to humanitarian supplies, and prevent a larger scale of humanitarian crisis.
Guo Jia Kun stated that the issue of Palestine is at the core of the Middle East issue, and the “two-state solution” is the only realistic way out for resolving the Palestinian issue. China firmly supports the Palestinian people in achieving independence and national construction. China is willing to continue working with the international community to promote an early end to the fighting in Gaza, alleviate the humanitarian crisis, implement the “two-state solution,” and ultimately achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.
