Xinhua News Agency, London, June 30 – The Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, Majid Tahert-Lavani, in an exclusive interview broadcast by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on June 30, stated that if the United States wishes to resume negotiations with Iran, it must first ensure that Iran is no longer subjected to attacks.
Tahert-Lavani mentioned that the United States has expressed its desire to resume negotiations with Iran this week through mediation efforts, but has not yet made a stance on a crucial issue: whether Iran will continue to be attacked during the negotiations.
Tahert-Lavani emphasized that Iran’s uranium enrichment activities are for peaceful purposes and demanded that Iran refrain from such activities, which it would not accept. “The enrichment rate can be discussed, the production capacity can be discussed, but if you say, ‘You shouldn’t enrich uranium, you should zero enrichment,’ and if you disagree, then we bomb you—that’s the jungle law,” he said.
Since April this year, the United States and Iran have held five rounds of indirect talks aimed at resolving the Iranian nuclear issue and lifting sanctions against Iran. The sixth round of talks was scheduled to take place in Oman on June 15, but was canceled due to an Israeli raid on Iran early in the morning of June 13.
