On August 1st, local time, Ukrainian President Zelensky stated in his evening routine video address that Ukraine is ready to take swift action towards achieving peace, hence insisting on holding a summit meeting at the highest level of leadership. Ukraine is willing to advance the process towards peace at the fastest pace possible. We are very clear about what steps need to be taken and who can make decisions in Russia. Therefore, Ukraine once again calls for dialogue not to remain at the technical level but to move beyond mere statement exchanges and to truly engage in meetings between leaders.
He particularly thanked US President Trump for expressing willingness to participate in such talks and indicated that there needs to be an indication of readiness from Russia. Zelensky stated that the Office of the President of Ukraine, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs will continue to communicate with international partners regarding the issue of leaders’ meetings.
