According to the WeChat public account of the Chinese Consulate General in Denpasar, Indonesia, two major eruptions occurred on the evening of August 1st and the early hours of August 2nd at Mount Lewotobi in East Nusa Tenggara Province, with the highest height of volcanic ash columns reaching approximately 18,000 meters. Since mid-June, the alert level for this volcano has been at its highest level of 4. The local government has requested residents and tourists not to enter within a radius of 7 kilometers from the volcano’s crater and to closely guard against the potential disaster of volcanic ash and mudslides in surrounding areas.
Affected by the volcanic eruption, on August 2nd, some flights at Komodo International Airport in East Nusa Tenggara Province were canceled or delayed.
The Consulate General hereby reminds citizens within its jurisdiction to pay close attention to the warning information issued by relevant Indonesian authorities, enhance their safety awareness, strengthen self-protection, and avoid entering the volcano alert area. Due to the high concentration of volcanic ash columns, flight operations at airports in Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara Province may be temporarily canceled or delayed. Citizens within the consular district are advised to closely monitor changes in airport flight schedules and make appropriate travel plans, preparing contingency measures as needed.
