Live Sports Bar, August 2nd report:
Recently,
ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne discussed the potential contract renewal for Luka Dončić during an interview.
I am curious about this, when seeing these figures,
it seems that currently, signing a contract worth $165 million first makes the most sense for Dončić. This way, he can then sign another five-year deal worth $417 million to recover some of the losses from the Mavericks’ trade. So, whether it’s three or four years, what does this mean for the Los Angeles Lakers?
Shelburne: “I believe that signing any contract with the Lakers is significant for Dončić. It means that because we all know, he did not request to be traded here, right? I mean, you have the video of him smashing his phone. Right, at the time he found out about the trade. But he has already accepted Los Angeles, everything he has done is showing that he is happy here.”
“Well, I know that everyone in management had pleasant meetings and exchanges with him. They also had contact with the new owner who will take over soon. Let’s talk about the number you mentioned, the five-year deal worth $414 million?”
Mark Walter, the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, didn’t blink when he offered $700 million to Shohei Ohtani.
$700 million, just like that. I mean, it’s just a concept; it’s a huge sum of money for us all.”
“But they have the financial wherewithal to make this happen, don’t they? If Dončić chooses to sign with the Lakers and commit to staying, then they win this summer, right? That’s how it is. Now there are many teams waiting to see if Luka will renew his contract with the Lakers, because if he doesn’t renew, he would become the biggest fish on the free agent market.”
