In 1972, at the age of thirty-five, Morishita read about the realist literature “A Journey to China” by Japanese author Hiroshi Abe. The book revealed the Nanjing Massacre, an atrocity perpetrated by Japanese forces during the war. From that moment on, Morishita resolved to reorganize, review, and express this history, ultimately completing his first series of documentaries on the wartime atrocities of Japanese forces in China, which took eight years to complete, titled “Aggression.”
Over the next forty years, he traveled back and forth between China and Japan, producing numerous documentaries revealing the truth of the Japanese invasion of China. After each film screening, he treasured the audience’s feedback.
According to news reports, currently, 3 million people in Japan have watched Morishita’s documentaries. A Japanese elementary school student wrote in their reflections: “I watched that 8mm film, and I realized how terrible war is. Are these people still human? Or are they beasts?”
Morishita stated, “This is done to let the Japanese public understand the truth; we must view our history correctly.”
