
On August 16th local time, Turkish Foreign Minister Fedan spoke by phone with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov to discuss the Russia-Ukraine conflict and related diplomatic progress. The two sides mainly exchanged views on the meeting between the U.S. and Russian presidents held in Alaska, and evaluated its impact on the peace process in Ukraine.
Fedan expressed that Turkey hopes to take the Alaska meeting as an opportunity to promote a lasting peace with the participation of Ukraine, and reiterated that Turkey is willing to play a constructive role in this regard.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said the call was initiated by Fedan. The two sides also discussed the schedule for the upcoming bilateral contacts between Russia and Turkey. (By Chen Huihui and Hao Wei, CCTV).
