On August 16th, local time, the Sudanese non-governmental organization “Sudanese Doctors Network” issued a statement,

Announcing that a bombing attack had occurred in the Abu Shouk refugee camp in North Darfur State in western Sudan on the same day, resulting in 31 civilian deaths and another 13 injured.

The statement indicated that among the 31 victims were 7 children and a pregnant woman. It accused the Sudan Rapid Support Forces of launching the attack. The Rapid Support Forces did not respond to this.

Abu Shouk refugee camp is located north of the capital Fashir in North Darfur State and is one of Sudan’s largest refugee camps, accommodating more than 500,000 displaced persons. Recently, the camp has been attacked multiple times.

On April 15th, 2023, the Sudan Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces had armed conflicts in the capital Khartoum, and the fighting subsequently spread to other areas. The more than two-year armed conflict has killed nearly 30,000 people and displaced more than 12 million people. Darfur is one of the main battlefields of the conflict. Of the five states in this region, except North Darfur State, the other four states have been controlled by the Rapid Support Forces.
