Sergey Lysenko, an advisor to the head of the Ukrainian President’s Office, made a statement on social media on August 16th regarding the ways and means to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Lysenko stated that Ukraine firmly believes that a ceasefire must be achieved first, before proceeding with subsequent谈判processes.
Lysenko explicitly pointed out that Ukraine’s position is very clear: to stop the fighting first and then discuss other matters. The reason is that if negotiations were to commence before a ceasefire is in place, Ukraine would face a significant risk of extortion. Only by真正实现ing a ceasefire can necessary space be opened up for diplomatic activities.
No agreement on a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire was reached during the Trump-Putin meeting, and Zelensky supports a trilateral meeting.
On the 15th, local time, U.S. President Trump held a meeting with Russian President Putin in Anchorage, Alaska. The meeting lasted about three hours, and both sides stated that it was “constructive” and “productive”, but no agreement was reached on issues such as a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire.
On August 16th, local time, Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that he spoke with U.S. President Trump. He expressed that Ukraine supports Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. Key issues can be discussed at the leadership level, and the trilateral model is suitable for this purpose.
Zelensky also stated that he plans to further discuss all the details of ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict with Trump in Washington on August 18th. (Source: CCTV, Dong Wei)
