On August 15th local time, the US government announced the cancellation of the US visas of the relatives of Brazilian Health Minister Padilha as part of a series of sanctions against Brazil.
Padilha expressed that the sanctions were intended to intimidate those who do not bow to the United States. He pointed out that canceling visas for children who are not a threat to the United States is a “cowardly act”.
Previously, the United States also announced the cancellation of visas for two Brazilian health officials, on the grounds that they participated in a project to send medical personnel from Cuba overseas, which “exploited Cuban medical personnel through forced labor”. The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Brazilian Ministry of Health have condemned and refuted this, respectively. (News)
