【Reported by Zhao Jiandong】 U.S. President Trump and Russian President Putin held a meeting on the 15th in Anchorage, Alaska. According to a report from National Public Radio (NPR) on the 16th, eight pages of confidential documents with the logo of the U.S. State Department were found on a printer at a hotel in Anchorage on the morning of the 15th, revealing unpublicized sensitive details of Trump’s meeting with Putin on the same day. These documents, which are suspected to be accidentally left by US personnel, detail the summit’s time and location, contact information for US government employees, and confidential arrangements for lunch.
NPR reported that the incident occurred at the four-star “Hotel Captain Cook,” which is located just 20 minutes away from the Elmen多夫-Richardson Joint Military Base where the meeting of the heads of state was held. Three guests found these documents on a public printer in the business center at around 9 am. NPR obtained photos taken by one anonymous guest who refused to disclose their identity out of fear of retaliation.
According to the obtained documents, the summit schedule on August 15th was precise to the specific conference room name within the joint military base, and it was also revealed that Trump planned to present Putin with a “American Bald Eagle Table Decor Statue”. Pages two to five not only listed the names of 13 US and Russian officials, but also included the mobile phone numbers of three US staff members, and even provided pronunciation guides for Russian officials, such as “POO-tihn” for President Putin.
Pages six and seven detailed the scheme for a lunch that was not held due to reasons unknown. The planned lunch, to be held under the name of “Exalted Vladimir Putin,” would have included a green vegetable salad, Olympic halibut paired with filet mignon, and caramel pudding as a dessert. In addition, according to the exposed information, the seating chart showed Trump sitting opposite Putin, with Secretary of State Rubio, Defense Secretary Hegseth, and White House Chief of Staff Susan Wiley to his right side in America, and Secretary of Treasury Bessent, Commerce Secretary Lutenik, and Special Envoy for Middle East Issues Witekov to his left side. On Putin’s both sides were Foreign Minister Lavrov and President Assistant Ushakov.
Regarding the disclosure of confidential documents, White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly responded on the 16th that the documents were merely “multi-page lunch menus,” denying any violation of security regulations. The U.S. State Department has not yet responded. Michael, a law professor at UCLA, criticized, “This once again proves that the current government is careless and incompetent. Confidential documents should never be left on public printers. It’s simple.”
NPR reported that this incident of confidential document leakage is the latest in a series of security vulnerabilities in the Trump administration. Previously, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) mistakenly added unrelated personnel to an enforcement chat group while pursuing an attempted murder suspect. In March, U.S. national security officials also mistakenly added a person to a confidential group discussing military strikes in Yemen.
