On August 18th local time, U.S. President Trump held multilateral meetings with leaders of multiple European countries in the East Room of the White House. Participants included the President of the European Commission Von Der Leyen, French President Macron, German Chancellor Merz, Italian Prime Minister Meloni, and NATO Secretary General Luette.
During the meeting, Trump expressed that he would strive to promote the trilateral meeting between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia. Trump said that so far, this day has been very successful. Russia agreed to accept security guarantees, while “the United States will consider who will do what”. There are still potential discussions needed. Trump stated that everyone hopes for an immediate ceasefire and is committed to achieving a lasting peace.
Earlier that day, Trump held a meeting with the visiting Ukrainian President Zelensky at the White House.
