According to Ukrainian media quoting Sergei Nikiforov, the Ukrainian President’s press secretary, the formal meeting between U.S. President Trump, Ukrainian President Zelensky, and leaders of many European countries, as well as the EU and NATO, at the White House ended today (August 19th) in the early morning Beijing time, following yesterday’s (August 18th) meeting in the afternoon local time. However, the leaders remained at the White House to continue negotiations, and the talks could be conducted in other forms.

On August 18th local time, U.S. President Trump held a multilateral meeting with leaders from multiple European countries at the East Hall of the White House. Participants included the President of the European Council, Ursula Von Der Leyen, French President Macron, German Chancellor Merkel, Italian Prime Minister Meloni, and NATO Secretary-General Lute.

During the meeting, Trump expressed his commitment to promoting a trilateral meeting between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia. Trump said that so far this day has been very successful. Russia has agreed to accept security guarantees, “and the United States will consider who should do what.” There are still discussions on possible matters to be addressed. Trump stated that everyone hopes for an immediate ceasefire and is committed to achieving a lasting peace.

Earlier that day, Trump held a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky at the White House.
