The diplomatic missions in South Africa have fully cooperated with the police in the handling of a kidnapping case involving Chinese citizens.

On August 19th, a Chinese citizen was kidnapped in the Aeroton area in the southern part of Johannesburg, Gauteng Province. After the incident, the Embassy of China in South Africa and the Consulate General in Johannesburg attached great importance to this case and immediately formed a special task force according to the working mechanism. The embassy immediately called senior officials of the South African National Police for discussion on the case. The consulate, along with the South African Chinese Police and Public Cooperation Center, tried to comfort the victims’ families and assisted them in reporting the case to the police. The consulate general also rushed to the crime scene in the first time, joining hands with the police director in Johannesburg and the head of the local police station to inspect the scene, retrieve surveillance footage, and fix key evidence.

In the next step, the Embassy of China in South Africa and the Consulate General in Johannesburg will further urge the police to intensify their efforts in handling this case. At the same time, they reminded all Chinese citizens in South Africa to pay attention to safety reminders issued by the consulates and take practical self-protection measures to avoid illegal infringement.
