Some netizens have posted on social media claiming
that a flight from Shanghai Pudong to Tokyo Haneda took off at 17:35.
One user added that they felt like they were falling freely, and videos released by another user show that oxygen masks fell off during the descent.
The flight was scheduled to land at 21:35 local time according to radar data, but around 18:53, it had suddenly dropped rapidly to over 3,200 meters before finally landing at nearly 19:50.
However, some netizens have posted that the accident flight was not JL8696, but rather IJ004 operated by Spring Airlines.
According to public information, Spring Airlines Japan Co., Ltd. was established in 2012 with joint investments from Spring Airlines and Japan Airlines. In June 2021, Japan Airlines became the controlling shareholder, retaining a 33% stake in Spring Airlines.
Today, some self-media platforms reported that a Spring Airlines plane had a malfunction and descended 3,000 meters rapidly. Upon investigation, this claim was found to be false.
Spring Airlines’ flight codes start with ‘9C’, and all flights are operating normally.
