On July 2nd, local time, in Athens, Greece, the former German Prime Minister Merkel stated that if the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration of the United States cause American citizens to pay more for goods, then Trump himself will be affected.
Merkel expressed that the EU must unite and stand firm.
When Trump imposes more tariffs on the EU, it should not be feared, but instead, retaliate with its own tariffs.
The EU must negotiate with the United States to resolve the tariff issue.
President Trump had threatened that if trade negotiations between the US and Europe did not break through by July 9th, he would impose a 50% tariff on EU goods. Currently, the US has imposed a 50% tariff on steel and aluminum products from the EU, a 25% tariff on automobiles, and a base tariff of 10% on almost all other goods. (CCTV Reporter: Yang Mingjiao)
