According to a report by Reuters on July 2nd, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in an interview with the American CBS News that the bombing of Iran’s key Folium nuclear facility by the United States has resulted in “serious damage” to the facility.
In an interview aired on July 1st, Araghchi said, “No one is exactly sure what happened at Folium. However, as far as we know, these facilities have been severely damaged.”
He added, “The Organization for the Islamic Revolution in Iran… is currently conducting an assessment, and the assessment report will be submitted to the government.”
The Washington Post reported on June 29th, citing four sources familiar with classified intelligence, that intercepted Iranian communications have downplayed the extent of the damage caused by the U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear program.
President Trump had previously stated that the airstrikes “completely destroyed” Iran’s nuclear program. However, U.S. officials acknowledged that a comprehensive assessment of the damage caused by the military strikes over the weekend would require time.
