On July 2nd, local time, a federal judge in the United States, Randolph Moss, ruled that President Donald Trump’s order to halt asylum applications along the southern border was unlawful and halted this order by the Trump administration. Moss stated that his order would take effect on July 16th, giving the Trump administration two weeks to appeal.
On January 20th, during his swearing-in ceremony, Trump signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency along the southern border, demanding measures to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the country. Trump declared that the situation at the southern border constituted an invasion of the United States and stated that he would “suspend the actual entry of immigrants” and their ability to seek asylum.
The Trump administration also increased its military presence at the border by deploying hundreds of soldiers to prevent immigration and asylum seekers from entering the country. (Reported by Xu Dezhi and Zhao Miao)
