According to the WeChat official account of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, as per the Gold Council Law of Ghana, which took effect in April 2025, the Gold Council is currently the sole buyer, seller, inspection agency, and exporter for all gold produced by licensed artisanal and small-scale mining sectors. All foreigners must exit the local gold trading market. Starting from May 1, anyone purchasing or trading gold without a Gold Council license will be criminally prosecuted.
Recently, relevant authorities in Ghana have taken action to severely crack down on illegal gold transactions by foreigners, with individuals already arrested facing significant financial losses and severe legal consequences. The Chinese Embassy in Ghana solemnly reminds its citizens not to engage in illegal gold trading activities in Ghana, refrain from participating in illegal gold mining and related activities, and never harbor any hope of escaping the consequences, lest their safety and property be compromised.
