On June 29th, local time, Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó announced that the United States has lifted sanctions related to the expansion of the Bukosch Nuclear Power Plant.
Szijjártó stated that currently, the large equipment required for the Bukosch Nuclear Power Plant is being produced in Russia and France.
Previously, the United States imposed sanctions on Hungary due to political reasons, one of which aimed to prevent the implementation of the expansion project by imposing restrictions related to the Bukosch Nuclear Power Plant’s expansion. This would have prevented Hungary from ensuring its long-term energy supply.
The Bukosch Nuclear Power Plant is located in central Hungary and is the only nuclear power plant in the country. Currently, four of the plant’s reactors produce nearly half of Hungary’s electricity. The addition of two new reactors will significantly enhance the power generation capacity of the Bukosch Nuclear Power Plant. (CCTV News, Bü Weijun)
