According to a report by TASS on June 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the relationship between Russia and the United States has begun to normalise under the push of U.S. President Donald Trump.
Putin said, “Overall, thanks to President Trump, the relationship between Russia and the United States has begun to normalise, even in some aspects. Issues within diplomatic relations are not yet resolved, but after all, we have taken the first step forward, and we are continuing our journey.”
Putin mentioned that there had been established working connections between the main departments of the two countries. He stated, “(The) State Department and (the) Ministry of Foreign Affairs have established contacts, as have intelligence agencies. The latter is also very important because, for example, any matter related to combating terrorism is crucial for us at all times.”
Putin also expressed that Trump sincerely and earnestly strives to mediate the situation in Ukraine. Putin said, “Everything he has done domestically, his actions in the Middle East situation, and his efforts to resolve the crisis in Ukraine, we certainly appreciate very much. I have already said this, and now I want to publicly reaffirm: I believe President Trump sincerely and earnestly is committed to resolving issues in Ukraine.”
The report mentioned that U.S. President Donald Trump highly praised Putin’s remarks. Trump later in the day said in the Oval Office of the White House, “He (Putin) made some very friendly statements today. Very friendly. Vladimir Putin made some very friendly statements today.”
Trump stated, “He once again respects our country. I can clearly tell you, one year ago (before President Biden), he didn’t take our country seriously,” “but now Putin respects our country.”
Trump remarked that “just a year ago”, the United States was not respected on the international stage. “There was an incompetent president around him, surrounded by ‘bad people’, with ‘malicious intentions’. But now, the world is once again respecting our country.” (Translated/Wei Lianglei)
