On the afternoon of June 29th, local time, Kim Hyun-soo, the Chief Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat in South Korea, announced at the presidential palace that President Lee Jae-myung has nominated former Cabinet Secretary Jum Hong-joo to serve as the new Minister for National Defense and Security, nominated Co-Party Member of Parliament Choi Sung-ho to be the new Minister for Education, Health and Welfare, and nominated Co-Party Member of Parliament Yoon Hae-chong to be the new Minister for Industry, Trade, and Resources. Additionally, on the same day, Lee Jae-myung also nominated Ministers from other departments including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Unification, and the Ministry of National Defense. The government formation by Lee Jae-myung is nearing its conclusion.
On the 27th, Lee Jae-myung submitted proposals for personnel hearings for nominations for five government department heads: those for national defense, foreign affairs, and others. The Korean National Assembly will then proceed with hearings for each nominee. Furthermore, on the 29th, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Yun Won-ji, announced that the National Assembly would vote on the approval of the appointment of Prime Minister Kim Min-seop on July 3rd.
