On the afternoon of June 29th, local time, Kim Hyun-soo, the Chief Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat in South Korea, announced at the presidential palace that President Lee Jae-myung has nominated former Cabinet Secretary Jum Hong-joo to serve as the new Minister for National Defense and Security, nominated Co-Party Member of Parliament Choi Sung-ho to be the new Minister for Education, Health and Welfare, and nominated Co-Party Member of Parliament Yoon Hae-chong to be the new Minister for Industry, Trade, and Resources. Additionally, on the same day, Lee Jae-myung also nominated Ministers from other departments including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Unification, and the Ministry of National Defense. The government formation by Lee Jae-myung is nearing its conclusion.
On the 27th, Lee Jae-myung submitted proposals for personnel hearings for nominations for five government department heads: those for national defense, foreign affairs, and others. The Korean National Assembly will then proceed with hearings for each nominee.
