According to Reuters on June 29, in response to the corruption trial against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump fiercely criticized Israeli prosecutors, stating “We will not tolerate such behavior.”
On social media on June 28, Trump wrote: “The uncontrollable (Israeli) prosecutors’ actions towards Netanyahu are completely insane.”
Trump claimed that judicial proceedings would interfere with Netanyahu’s ability to negotiate with Hamas and Iran. “The United States spends billions of dollars annually on protecting and supporting Israel, far exceeding any other country. We will not tolerate this situation.”
The report mentioned that Trump defended Netanyahu for the second time in a few days and called for the dismissal of the trial.
In 2019, Netanyahu was charged in Israel with three criminal cases, including bribery and fraud, but he denied all these charges. On June 27, a court in Israel rejected Netanyahu’s request to postpone his testimony in the corruption case, citing no sufficient reason to support this request.
In one of the cases, Netanyahu and his wife were accused of accepting luxury items worth over $260,000 from a billionaire in exchange for political favors. In two other cases, Netanyahu was accused of attempting to negotiate with two Israeli media outlets to secure more favorable coverage.
