On June 30th local time, Airlangga Hartarto announced at a press conference in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, that the Indonesian government had implemented import relaxation policies for ten types of goods, including forest products, fertilizers, footwear and apparel, and plastic raw materials. Hartarto stated that these policies were part of the ongoing efforts to ease regulations and expedite business license processes, following President Joko Widodo’s directives.
It is noteworthy that Indonesia introduced these trade policies just as the final deadline for the U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff negotiations was approaching. Previously, Trump announced a temporary suspension of high tariffs for 90 days until July 9th. The Indonesian side has not yet responded whether these measures are related to the U.S. tariff negotiations.
