According to reports from the British Independent Newspaper and other foreign media on the 29th, during a recent interview with Fox News, US President Trump refuted claims by anti-China anchor Maria Bartiromo that China “steals intellectual property rights” and “launches cyber attacks”, saying that these practices are what the US has done before.
On June 29th, local time, Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” program broadcast an interview video with Trump, which covered issues related to China-US trade and tariffs. Trump said, “We get along very well with China.” During the program, Bartiromo mentioned the alleged “Chinese hackers attacking US telecommunications systems,” “China stealing intellectual property rights,” as well as US accusations against China involving fentanyl and the COVID-19 pandemic, and asked, “How can you negotiate with obvious ‘bad guys’ and trust them on economic issues?”
Trump replied, “Do you think we wouldn’t do the same to them? We would, we’ve done many things.”
Bartiromo pressed, “Is this how the world works?”
Trump answered, “This is how the world works, it’s a dirty world.”
The Independent Newspaper reported that Trump’s remarks were an implication that what the US has done to China is the same as what it accuses China of doing.
China has responded, refuted or clarified the above allegations made by the US against China.
Regarding the China-US economic and trade issues, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated on June 27th in response to questions about the framework in London. After the London talks, the Chinese and American teams have maintained close communication. Recently, with approval, both sides have further confirmed the details of the framework. China will approve the export applications of controlled items that meet the requirements according to law. The US will lift a series of restrictive measures against China accordingly. The spokesperson expressed hope that the US will work together with China, follow the important consensus reached by the two heads of state on June 5th, fully utilize the mechanism of China-US economic and trade negotiations, increase mutual understanding, reduce misunderstandings, strengthen cooperation, and jointly promote healthy, stable, and sustainable development of China-US economic and trade relations.
