[Report] According to a June 29th report by The Guardian among other media outlets, Iranian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ehmad Elahi told an interviewer in the US that “if they want to give us orders, we cannot engage in any negotiations.”
On June 29th, CBS released an interview with Elahi. In the interview, the program host mentioned that the US side expressed its desire for talks with Iran.
“Negotiations are principled,” Elahi stated. “We should participate in the negotiations and discuss, perhaps we can reach an agreement, or not. But surrendering unconditionally is not negotiation.”
“If they are ready to negotiate, they will find that we are also ready. But if they want to give us orders, we cannot engage in any negotiations,” Elahi added.
US President Donald Trump stated on June 25th that the US would soon hold talks with Iran and might sign an agreement. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian denied rumors on June 26th that there was a consensus to restart negotiations. Furthermore, Amir-Abdollahian posted on social media on June 28th, stating that the Iranian people never allow others to determine their fate. “If President Trump truly wants to reach an agreement, he should put aside his disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards the Supreme Leader of Iran,” Amir-Abdollahian said.
