On the 29th, French President Emmanuel Macron posted on social media that he had spoken with Iranian President Hassan Pir-Zaeedyane via phone call, calling for compliance with the Israeli-Iranian ceasefire agreement and expressing hope for Iran to return to the negotiation table.
Macron stated that he had issued a series of appeals to Iran, including adhering to the ceasefire to help restore peace in the Middle East; returning to the negotiation table to address ballistic missile and nuclear issues; maintaining the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resume its work in Iran as soon as possible.
On the 25th, Macron had also called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel to urge all parties to adhere to the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, and to negotiate a solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. Macron also called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip of Palestine, and for the implementation of the “two-state solution”.
Following a large-scale airstrike by Israel against Iran early on the 13th of this month, both sides launched multiple rounds of attacks on each other. On the 21st Eastern Time, the United States bombed three nuclear facilities under international atomic energy agency (IAEA) safeguards in Iran. In retaliation, Iran launched a missile strike at the Udairah Air Base in Qatar, which is operated by the US. On the 24th, following a schedule announced by the US, a ceasefire was declared between Iran and Israel. The Iranian Parliament passed an act on the 25th, suspending cooperation with the IAEA.
The President of France has called for adherence to the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran.
